A Mouse full of fun: a crafty find

Apologies for tardy posting. I am working on too many projects at once and not getting any of them up. March Madness. April Fool is here and so am I. For an interim posting I want to share a quilt store find.

Perfect for my beading group is this cute mouse, both pincushion and thread holder. Debbie said she wanted to have it hold her rings. This Little Mouse Needle & Thread Keeper is a Susa Glenn Design:ArtFabric Studio. This link sends you to her "Sewing Whimsies" but she has a big website to explore and if I had not posted this,  the site I would not have discovered. The pincushion body is filled with sand (some suggest builders' sand or aquarium sand), but I wish someone would tell me how to find emery locally (though it may be for needles of the past, and wool, better to lubricate needles and pins). One could also use poly-fil. About 10" wire is included which you shape to secure the tale within the piece.
At the same sight you will find other creatures from dogs to frogs. The rooster Nancy gave me is next! One can never have enough pincushions. Mimi Kirshner's are so loveable!

  1. This little mouse is absolutely adorable! I can hardly wait to go to her website and see more. I don't know where to find emery or even what it is, exactly, but you can buy sand, right, several places--Michael's, aquarium stores, etc.?For pincushions, sand is much better, don't you think, than fiberfill????

  2. I followed the link to the site and checked out her information. Those are such cute creations and the fabric so adds to their appeal! I also loved her story about the chickens, the bathtub, and the rolling hen house. She must be a fascinating woman.

  3. You are ALL "fascinating women" - no doubt about it. I wish I had a magic wand to create all these clever "Sewing Whimsies" and all the other fun and beautiful items that come from your minds, hearts, and hands.

  4. Sherron said it for me (as usual). You are all clever women. If I took up sewing, I'm sure I'd put a needle through my finger. Ouch!

  5. I have since free motion quilted around the characters, the clouds and the bushes. I am now trying to decide how to embellish the hanging or if I should not. I found the most charming buttons that are mini playing cards as well as others that are spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs.
