Joe Retired! : a journal quilt

At the end of the year, Joe retired. He says he is under new management! I love it; but he has not said  the same thing re this new stage of life :*).

This journal quilt reflects all the red tape and paper work that go into retirement and suggests the chairs Joe reupholstered in the new year (not to speak of the rooms he repainted and shelves he built to hold his books)!

The fabric of birds is from my quilting stash as are the chair silhouettes. The red tape is a zigzag stitch and the flying papers are Tyvek cut from an envelope to appear flying.

  1. Love it! The retirement (Go! Joe!) and the quilt. Especially the red tape. Most especially the red tape. I love see the fabric on the quilt and on the chair. You 2 are 2 much.

  2. I agree with Trilla--too much! That Joe, getting so much done so quickly. I think the vast majority of men would have sat back and vegged out for a couple of months! Love that fabric. Love the chairs. Love the quilt and all its symbolism. Good work, Linda!

  3. Linda..that is the best journal yet….very clever…and great to look at. I have all of that fabric and would never have thought to use it in that way……I will see it Thursday… Oh, yes, your pomegranate fabric is safe from me…I went to button box today and bought some. Rita

  5. This is a great blog, Linda. I have been so impressed with Joe's " get up and go" and with his craftsmanship since he retired. I think you are BOTH having a really good time being RETIRED. I love the colors on your fabric, too. ss

  6. The quilt is perfect for Joe. It's hard to deal with leaving AND with the various celebrations that are held in one's honor. No doubt Joe did both beautifully! It's great that now he's pitched right in and helped build his nest there at home. You all enjoy retirement. It's a "good thing," as Martha Stewart would say.
