Midterm Madness:, a Journal Quilt

The lack of eloquence during the the 2010 midterm election was mad, maddening and disheartening.
Elections have always been rough and tumble, but I have never had to turn off the television so regularly as during the last one.  This journal quilt is filled with signs and language leading up to the November 2, 2010 election.

Joe and I a great time at Patricia and Diego's fabulous art-filled home in downtown Boston last night. I will mail this fabric postcard tomorrow.

  1. It is maddening especially when people have been fooled into voting against their best interests -- the bigotry, hatred, fear and lies used by some are frightening and makes me so sad.
I wish they would all spend some time in Canada to see what a social democracy looks like and what it does for its citizens.

  2. I ditto everything Kathy wrote, and what you said, Linda. I love your quilt. The flag background. Where did you get the white strips? So perfect. Thanks for providing a brief release from a stressful event. And haven't we been here before? I wonder how long it's going to be before 'they' go after Medicare.

  3. There are novelty fabrics that have letters and numbers as well as objects and people. Of course in a journal quilt, one could sew paper on, but I thought what I used worked.

  4. Your election journal quilt is absolutely perfect! Wasn't it just a heinous mess to hear even parts of some of the rhetoric? Gosh, out here we got to hear Meg & Carly 24/7! They each did enough foot-shooting to do themselves in. I LOVE the postcard! It's beautiful & the light itself conveys the wonderful time you all had. Would loved to have been a fly on the wall!

  5. ND said," Loved your election quilt. the word strips looked like blankity-blank swears. and the square gave me a very claustrophobic feeling as did the pre election advertising." N. Thanks to her as well!

  6. Linda, the postcards are perfect, and so is the journal quilt. We often turned off the tv during this campaign year - went to FIDDLER ON THE ROOF on election night and drove visitors around AR to look at leaves as the election was re-hashed --- part of me wanted to hear all about it and part of me was glad I didn't. Congrats on your illustrations. You captured the mood ! OUR MOOD !

  7. Wow, a double whammy posting this time, with a clever and timely journal quilt AND a neat fabric postcard. My sentiments mirror yours and the commentors above, as well! We almost quit watching TV in "real time," because of all the obnoxious ads, even those of "our" candidates. It is disheartening and disillusionin, how Americans are such "fair weather friends" and as soon as things aren't going to suit them, switch their loyalties. What a good idea, too, to use a fabric postcard for a thank you note to friends! I must borrow that idea, for sure!
