Have fun in black and white!

Fall is here, the time to get new pen and pencils for school! That was the best part for me in grammar school. Same today. I bought some white paint pens at Blick and some black paper to draw on. Whereas I loved etching with oil paint on canvas in the past, a la Gerry Bergstein, it is pen and paper today. So I handed a black tablet to 12-year-old grandson David, along with a white ink pen. He created this charming underwater piece. Note the surprises at the upper edge to down below. I framed it.

The first of the year is too busy for me to accomplish anything, but these quick drawings are fun to sketch from the computer, newspaper or just out of one's head. I knocked off a few and then went back with a 30-second-dry black ink FUDE brush pen to hide what I didn't like. That was quite fun to learn what I like and don't like in this medium. More about the FABulous Fude soft brush pen in the next post.

  1. You make it sound so fun and adventuring to sit with a pen and paper! I don't know--I'll probably still with the standard pencil and white paper, but this "I can't draw" girl may give it a try!

  2. I agree with Trilla! This I think even I could do. I always love your blog posts and am blown away with your skills and talents, but most of the time I think "I could never do that." But this one on black paper--YES! I think I could do this and I would love it. Wish I'd known about this when the 4 grandkids used to come to Waco and I'd do crafts with them; they'd have loved this! But at 17, 18, 20, and nearly 21, alas, they have gotten too old and therefore have interests more paramount than crafting with Grandmommy!

  3. I laughed when I saw the first one - the self portrait and orange leaves. What a look you give yourself! It’s good to have an art gift of pen and black paper for my artist granddaughters. I love the drawings.
