12 x 12 journal quilts |
unfinished backs of quilts |
The four 12 x 12s I showed to the first two groups (bee and JQC) with their unfinished backs and fronts makes them the UFOs...unfinished objects. The curvy railroads and long panel are from the workshop. At the guild meeting, where I showed the workshop creations, I ran into two friends, Andrea and Nedra from Material Mavens, the International quilt group.
The sunflowers are Van Gogh's and at Jim's Thanksgiving, Lloyd from the Frick encouraged me to get Van Gogh: The Life although I had already read so many bios of VG. So glad I did. This book is quite interesting with new information. The snowmen have to do with our NYC Christmas. I helped the children put some mini snowmen together and they were proud of their creations. I used a printable fabric for the back to capture other images from that Christmas visit. I need to embellish more. The Robin on the blue stands for the Round Robin quilt group I joined, a first for me, and the piece it belongs to was my first attempt.
The curvy pieces of quilt tops (not sure what these UFOs will become) are from the all-day Saturday workshop. I showed them at QC; therefore, my MM friends Nedra and Andrea could find me at the guild meeting . Workshop leader, Dianne Hire, had a trunk show and talk that evening. I survived all the above and enjoyed seeing the family.

Good pictures to prove your point! 'So glad you survived it all and have beautiful work to show for it - plus a blog to describe your crafts and your feelings :). ss
ReplyDeleteGood post...
ReplyDeleteLove what you did in Dianne's class...looking forward to seeing what it/they will become! AW
Wow! Sit down and have a cup of tea, and then send me the name of your vitamins! Love all of these, especially the Dragon, but then, I am one.
ReplyDeleteU is for Unicorn: Medieval designs for applique just arrived in the mail and there are some great designs...especially of the dragon. I ordered a Used - Very Good book for $3. It was published in Arizona.
DeleteLove the sunflowers and the blue and green batik star pieces. How did you do the sunflowers? Great to meet you last night and amazingly (for me) the photo came out ok!
ReplyDeleteI got Van Gogh's sunflowers at The City Quilter in NYC. They had a panel of Van Gogh, Monet, Matisse, etc. I had to have it, not knowing what I would do with it.
DeleteIt came in handy to remember the helpful hint at that superb Thanksgiving. City Quilter may have the panels on-line.
That was fun seeing all your quilts on your blog. You are a busy bee and with company too. K B-B
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing that you have done all of this in such a relatively short period of time. AND, you've gone to NYC and had family to visit on top of all of that. Kudos for interesting pieces that show your exploration of what you've seen and learned. Now, how will you refine these beginnings into what feels right and works for you? Can't wait to see!!!
ReplyDeleteLinda, all of these 12x12s are just outstandingly beautiful! I agree with so many of the above comments, it seems pointless to repeat, but especially I say "ditto" to Rosemary! You have been so prolific, it takes my breath away!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I have gone back and re-read your post! I confess now that I focused on the quilts and went straight to comments after being so overwhelmed by them. So I missed BOTH the UFOs from the Dianne Hire workshop AND the fun photo of Nedra and Andrea. Silly me! You just MUST put these UFOs into a quilt soon; how about the bigger quilt I am always urging you to make?????
ReplyDeleteOh, and the robin on the blue? I have a whole collection of that same fabric, all the coordinates, that I bought recently at JoAnn's; I plan to make a small quilt from them someday for one of my bird-loving SC friends!
DeleteI loved all your quilts...sunflowers, especially, but the Chinese 'firebird'compass is still my all time favorite.
ReplyDeleteNow maybe you need a nap.
